The AAC High School experience focuses on preparing our students to enter top American, European and Moroccan universities and providing a safe learning environment where students can be themselves and reach their potential. Students are given a voice, along with a set of high expectations, so that the high school is a collaborative atmosphere where all are welcome and accepted. Students complete a rigorous, tri-lingual curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, depth of student and personal responsibility.
Even though we are still a year away from adopting the IB Diploma Programme, the entire staff has received IB training and will use its philosophy and methods in each class. The IB works well with AAC’s long-time use of Project-based Learning, both emphasizing critical thinking and cross-curricular work. Last school year we raised the expectations for our students, and will do so again in the 2019-20 year. The students have risen to the challenge so far, and we are confident they will continue to do so.
The improvements we have made are evident in many ways, including fewer disruptions, more time on task and improved standardized test scores. Students know that they must push themselves to get better everyday, as our expectations have continued to rise. One clear piece of evidence for our growth is the scholarship offers our recent graduates received. The 2018-19 senior class received close to $2,000,000 in offers from top universities around the world, smashing the previous record of $600,000.
This year we are planning on teaching more leadership skills, and to provide student leadership with a “seat at the table”. Our class president will represent the high school at our newly formed Community Board, which will consist of staff, parents and community members and help guide school leadership in the school’s operations. We want our students to have a voice, since it is their school!
