AAC's Annual Holiday Fair DEC 4th

Holiday Fair

Please be advised that there has been an important change in the 2016-17 Calendar. Back to School Night (Open House) will now be held on Thursday, September 22,   5:30 -7:30 pm

We look forward to meeting you and we hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and hear about their instructional goals for the year.  Open House is also a great opportunity to get further clarification about curriculum, homework, communication tools like Google classroom and teacher websites, as well as any academic and behavioral expectations your child's teacher may have.  Open House is not the same as Parent Teacher conferences, however, if you would like to discuss your child's individual progress with their teacher, please make an appointment for a future date.

As you know, one of our goals at AAC is to forge stronger partnerships with parents that support student achievement. Your attendance at these types of events are helpful toward meeting this goal.

American Academy is honored to be able to host the next Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) meeting  scheduled for September 21 at 10:00 AM.  Joining us for this meeting will are two special guests from OSAC Headquarters: Deputy Director of OSAC, Lisa Grice and Shari-Ann Peart, OSAC’s Middle East and North Africa Program Officer. Lisa and Shari will fill us in on the latest from OSAC HQ as well as provide greater insight on what OSAC central can do for us.  For more information on OSAC and its regional activities, visit their website at https://www.osac.gov/pages/aboutus.aspx

AAC students open new library for local school

This past weekend 25 students and 4 teachers embarked on a 5 hour journey to the south of Morocco to change an ordinary classroom into a special library for young boys and girls in the village of Imlil, just two hours south of Marakesh. American Academy students and teachers spent several weeks raising enough money to buy new books, shelves, floor mats, and pillows, to open new library for a small  Elementary school in the town of Imlil. This particular school had been converted from a military installation during the French occupation in the 1950’s.

Community Service Trip

When we arrived at the school to see where we would be working, we knew we had a lot of work ahead of us, but we were excited and ready to work!  Our students were full of energy and ready for the challenge.  After three days of scraping off old paint, sanding desks and walls, the room was ready for a make-over and our efforts paid off.  The look on the children’s faces when they entered was priceless and their smiles brought tears to my eyes.  They were so excited and happy to have a real library they could use!.

AAC Students Participate in DI 2016

During Winter Break, American Academy students participated the annual Destination Imagination (DI) competition in Doha,Qatar. The DI Mission is to develop opportunities that inspire the global community of learners to utilize diverse approaches in applying 21st century skills and creativity. This ties in very well to AAC’s instructional strategy and just one of many reasons why we have adopted the project-based learning model. This was the 2nd year that AAC has participated in this global event and has served as an excellent learning experience for our students.
