Dear Parents, Students, Teachers, and Visitors:
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to our new Early Childhood website! Very few schools around the world offer a world class program beginning with the education of 2 year-olds and I am proud to be a part of our community here. We have incredibly talented and hard-working teachers who go above and beyond to help your child meet her or his potential. And yes, Project-Based Learning (PBL) starts in the Nursery!
If you ever have suggestions, concerns, or just want to chat, please drop me an email and we can set up a time to meet!
We have a new Elementary School Principal, Dr. Wanda R. McCullough. Dr. Wanda, as she likes to be referred to by the staff and students, has been an educator for 18 years. Her education credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Romance Languages from Hunter College of the City University of New York, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in TESL and Bilingual Education from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University
American Academy has adopted and follows the State of Florida's Early Learning and Developmental Standards for students in Nursery through KG 1
KG 2 -- Grade 5 follow: Common Core (ELA and Math), Next Generation Science, Aero for Social Studies, Michigan standards for PE, ISTE for ICT, NAEA for art.
Based on collaboration with a state panel of experts, national and state expert reviewers, and public input from citizens across Florida, these Early Learning Standards reflect the latest research on child development and developmentally appropriate practices for young children. Standards and benchmarks are organized into five domains.
- Physical Development.
- Approaches to Learning.
- Social and Emotional Development.
- Language, Communication and Emergent Literacy.
- Cognitive Development and General Knowledge.
