Service Learning

The American Academy of Casablanca believes that students are responsible for making a positive and meaningful impact within their community. Thus, AAC students demonstrate fulfillment of the school’s values through their profound participation in a variety of meaningful service opportunities.

What is Service Learning?

Service Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich learning experiences, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities. Our Service program aims to cultivate students’ interests and abilities, shape them into responsible citizens, and overall foster their personal growth. Students' service work must be voluntary in nature and not tied to any class credit or pay.

Who Participates?

Grades 5 and 8 will participate in school-based service projects and will also be given opportunities to contribute to their community in appropriate ways. Grade 5 will start the year by constructing and decorating a brick pathway, while Grade 8 will investigate methods to recycle and repurpose our materials while brainstorming ways to make a community garden.

As part of the AAC’s graduation requirement, students in Grade 12 are required to complete a minimum of 20 Service hours outside of class to graduate. Additionally, it is recommended that the service be related to the student’s career exploration or to a cause about which the student feels passionate. Students will document their hours, evidence, and reflection on their AAC Service Form.

Stay tuned for project updates!
